Pond Newsletter Spring 2007 Issue: 18 |
Spring
is arriving slowly in Quebec which gives us the necessary time to get ready for
a busy season. You will see we have some interesting new products to offer, some
that give an entirely new direction to the field of water management. So whether
you are a backyard pond enthusiast or a municipal water manager, we have some
new strategies to help you manage your water resource wisely.
- Mario
has an agreement with LG Sonic for using ultrasonic waves to eliminate algae blooms,
- Antoine
has found a solution to reduce bio film that can form inside Bubble Tubing
under certain conditions: read about Bio-Purge, - Christina is interested
in the energy transfer for aeration employed by the European Plocher
System , - David has met Sue of Vertex (Florida)
and returned with a tan and a new product for aerating water in remote locations:
AquaKler.
-We
also have a new dry hydrant product, a reservoir that is designed for underground
installation; a perfect solution to fire hazard management. in rural areas. Go
to Dry Hydrant
Reservoir for more information. And
we are all talking about our new
line of Bacterius dry bacteria which now include 5 products :
two products for ponds, a natural flocculant, a product for septic systems and
drains and a product for the compost.
The new line of Bacterius dry bacteria Our
new line of complete dry bacteria will impress you! The product 1B (1 billion
C.F.U. = Colony Forming Unit) and the product 5B (5 billion C.F.U.) are improved
by the addition of barley straw, which acts as a natural algaecide. The product
Bacterius Floc is a natural flocculant composed of marine algae which allows settling
of the suspended material and absorption of dissolved nutrients in your pond.
It is a very good alternative to chemical flocculants that use alum or chlorine
which can be harmful to aquatic life. Bacterius No2 treats organic waste directly
in the septic tank or drain, allowing more efficient functioning of the septic
system. Finally, Bacterius Compost is a good bacteria mix that enhances decomposition
in your backyard compost.

waves for eliminating algae The
LG Sonic System is based on the use of ultrasonic waves at such a frequency that
they destroy the outer wall of many kinds of algae. All algae that are within
range of the emitter are destroyed. Upon treatment, the dead algae first float
to the top where they can be removed with a rake or other tool, or the dead algae
can settle on the pond floor and be decomposed naturally. To avoid re-growth of
algae, a bacteria treatment can be applied between LG Sonic treatments to speed
up algae decomposition at the sediment level.
The system is highly effective in many applications : in aquatic features such
as golf course ponds, water gardens, water treatment facilities, canal waterway
lift locks, mineral exploitation operations, etc. Now available in Canada!

Bio-Purge,
Bubble Tubing and diffuser discs
Bubble
Tubing is a high performing system of air diffusion. As with any product
overtime, some maintenance may be required. In aquatic environments, a biofilm
forms on any surface that comes in contact with water. Just run your hand inside
your water garden basin wall and you'll feel the slippery biofilm. In some instances
depending on the water quality, the biofilm can form inside the Bubble Tubing
or the diffuser disc which can interfere with the diffusion rate of the compressed
air. This is normal and sometimes unavoidable. In order to resolve this, we have
found a natural product
that dissolves and digests the biofilm, safely and efficiently: Bio-Purge. Application
rates of Bio-Purge vary depending on the characteristics of the pond and the pressure
delivered by the compressor. This
product is used to clean municipal drinking water reservoirs, and thus comes with
all the required certification for safe application in any aquatic system if used
according to the manufacturers directions. Ideal
for Bubble Tubing, Bio-Purge is also effective in cleaning air diffusion
rocks, disc diffusers or any other air diffusion system. For further information

Top The
Plocher System
Direct
from Europe, the Plocher System, named after the inventor, is a unique method
of improving water quality in an aquatic environment. Many water quality problems
arise from a lack of oxygen at the sediment level. Plocher developed a method
to transform the energy frequency of oxygen onto a neutral substance like quartz
dust. Essentially the quarts dust is coded with a "message" that means
oxygen. When the dust is applied to a water body, it reminds the water that oxygen
is required in order to stay in balance, and essentially the aquatic environment
responds as though oxygen were being added to it. The oxygen message on the dust
mobilizes the naturally occurring bacteria that consume the lake bottom sludge,
which frees up more oxygen to restore balance to the system. The Plocher System
has been proven effective in many lake applications throughout Europe, although
the exact science behind the process is less understood. Tests at the University
of Sherbrooke in Quebec confirm the European findings. For
over twenty years, the Plocher System has saved many lakes suffering from severe
eutrophication. To find out more go to this Plocher
System link. Top David
visited Vertex in Florida, and came back with AquaKler David
was smart, he actually left this frozen wasteland we call Quebec and headed south
for some much needed R&R this past winter. But like any good workaholic, he
married business with pleasure. While in Florida he met Sue of Vertex, had an
informative tour of their impressive facility, went for a lovely lunch and came
back inspired to sell more fountains. He also learned about AquaKer.
AquaKler™
is a unique product that raises oxygen levels quickly in situations where mechanical
systems and electricity may not be available. It comes as a dry powder which is
composed of a stabilized peroxygen formulated into time-released granules that,
when applied to a body of water, rapidly descend to the bottom and immediately
begin releasing a steady discharge of dissolved oxygen. This slow oxygen release
happens continuously over a very extended time period. Application of AquaKler™
is generally on a monthly schedule. We can help with dosages for specific projects
or applications. So after learning about this exciting new product we can forgive
David for once whining that Florida was too hot! while we were shivering in -20
degree weather at home! To

We
are looking for companies in Atlantic Canada, Ontario, the Prairies, the West
and the Netherlands to distribute our products. Contact us. New
