Protect your docks and boats from the ice with a de-icing system
These pictures show how heaving ice can warp and literally destroy a dock. A dock or boat that is encased in ice can suffer expensive damage as the force of ice and the gradual movements of the ice sheet can actually split a dock into pieces. Collars of ice can form on pilings and dock footings causing catastrophic structural failure and icebound boats can experience extreme mechanical damage if they become locked in ice.

As it is often not practical to remove large docks or boats from the water a deicer is your best insurance against serious ice damage. Deicers come in two basic categories: submersible motor types such as our Kasco® brand de-icers and the air diffusion or "dock bubbler" type.
To de-ice a shallow water area, direct the flow of warmer water from a deeper area into a shallower area. The deicer performs by drawing the warmer, denser water from the pond bottom and circulates it upwards towards the surface which prevents ice formation or melts existing ice. The deicers may be operated with the optional universal dock or piling mount. The deicer may be operated in either a vertical or several angle positions. The deicer can be adjusted to a maximum length of 10 feet from the mounting bracket. You may also use the optional flotation kit to create an elongated deicing pattern in either fresh or salt water. Ideal for shallow water areas or where water levels fluctuate such as tidal waters.

Using a suspended or fixed-mount deicer

Kasco® deicers are specially designed to be suspended from a dock or boat. An optional horizontal float or universal dock mount enables you to position the deicer in very strategic positions. Mounted in either a vertical or horizontal position, the deicer circulates water to the surface, causing turbulence that reduces or eliminates ice formation.
Rope Suspension
Each Kasco De-Icer includes two 20' mooring ropes for suspension below a dock or boat. These mooring ropes are included with the package and work extremely well in many applications where a dock or boat is available to suspend the De-Icer from and the water is at least 4-5' deep.
Kasco De-Icers come complete for suspended operation from a dock or boat in either a vertical or angled position. The angled operation by suspended method or with optional flotation unit produces an elongated pattern of agitated water. A vertical positioning produces a circular pattern. Vertical positioning of the De-Icer works well under boats and docks or between slips and boats.
Adjusting the angle of the De-Icer suspension is done by simply looping one suspension rope back one or two ribs on the propeller cage. Angled operation can be used to de-ice shallow water areas. This will direct the flow warmer water from a deeper area into the shallower area. Remember, a De-Icer works because it draws warmer, denser water from the bottom and circulates it upward to the surface, preventing ice formation or melting existing ice.
It is often easier to de-ice a boat by installing the de-icer at or near the bow, angled toward the stern. If the water flow is directed toward the shore or a retaining wall, it will flair, forming a desirable"T" shape de-icing pattern.
In tidal waters, split the difference in water depth so the De-Icer is in shallow water at low tide and deep water at high tide. Or, tie your De-Icer to the boat and allow the boat and De-Icer to rise and fall with the tide.
The area of water that can be de-iced by a single unit depends on climate and the body of water involved. For specific information contact us at 450 243-0976 or info@canadianpond.ca .
