A pond with clay bottom has almost never clear water due to
its high rate of mineral particles in suspension. By their positive ion charge,
the particles repel each other and cannot settle to the bottom. This phenomenon
makes the water in this type of pond opaque and colored (gray or brown). The sunlight
can not penetrate deeply and this affects the aquatic life of the pond. Also,
it only takes a small stirring at the bottom to have the clay particles resuspended
in the water column. There are solutions!
