Choosing a Pump for a Waterfall in Your Water Garden

We recommend on average a flow of 100 gallons for every inch of waterfall or cascade width. Don't forget to calculate the final height or "head" of your installation. Ensure the pump you choose can do the job. Don't forget that for every 10 feet of tubing there is an additional 1" (one inch) of friction loss. To minimize flow reduction from your pump use the widest bore of tubing you can attach to the submersible pump.

To build a waterfall that looks natural and has an abundant and even flow we often recommend building a catchement pond at the highest point. Since the pond water emerges from your tubing at a certain speed, depending on the pump you choose, it is a good idea to let the water fill the catchement pond first before the water flows over the cascade to guarantee that there is a uniform flow down the whole width of the waterfall.
