A season full of colour...

Summer warmth has arrived and with this, signs of algae. Do not despair friends, the Gazette has finally arrived (it would have been published earlier but we have been swamped by requests from our many clients, especially from the US and Europe). As always, let us know what you think.

Here is a brief update about Canadianpond:
- we have moved to our new location, better equipped with a large product showroom and warehouse space for storing more inventory
- our floating islands are deomonstrating great success. See them on display at the Flora 2006 garden show in Montreal until Octover 9,2006. Many of our local clients have installed islands in their ponds.
- our new automatic feeders are of interest to pond owners who wish to feed their koi using an automated system, and also for hunters who seek to attract deer for the fall hunt or for photographers who want to shoot deer only with their cameras!
- the new collection of Vertex is now available: cabinets, compressors, Airbase 4
- a new bacterial product combines enzymes and a colorant appeals to some of our clients: BluZyme
- we are currently looking for distributors in Europe for our product line
- The aquatic plant season is in full swing, consider doing your planting before the end of August to mid-September for best results.
- Our company and our aeration systems that we installed in Waterloo Lake were featured in the French magazine L'EAU, L'INDUSTRIE, LES NUISANCES - N°293 - June - July 2006
- due to a very busy season, coupled with the time it takes to manage spam issues, has forced us to close the pond forum. Thanks to all the loyal pond forum followers, especially: toadgirl, slime, pondweedinseatle, mrwaterstrider and all the others. It has been great pondering with you!

  • The Floating Islands
  • After much interest and legwork, we have acquired exlusive rights to be the sole distributor of the Bio-haven Wild Floating Islands in Canada. With excellent prices and a wide range of models to chose from, our private pond owners and municipal clients alike are extremely interested in this product for its water filtering and aesthetical qualities. Island sizes range from one foot square to 250 feet square.

The hottest event to hit Montreal this summer is the new international Flora 2006 gardening show. In conjunction with two outstanding Canadian landscape architects - Rick Moore and Chantal de Menezes, we have on display several of our products in the garden 32 -Excusez-Moi The Sea is Calling. Here we have on display our floating islands and underneath the islands, our exclusive bubble tubing that aerates the space in a beautiful swirl. Our silent PPM compressor gives the necessary power to push air through the tubing. Although larger islands are available, our designers chose to use islands up to 15 square feet. Some islands were planted with plants, some seeded on site.

The aeration system uses our exclusive Bubble Tubing™ and a small linear compressor for diffussion aeration at the root level under the islands. The islands will continue to grow and fill out as the summer progresses.

For wildlife enthusiasts, ducks, a turtle and a great blue heron were all observed at different times resting on our safe little islands in the heart of Montreal! Since we are unable to be on site, feel free to send us any photo you may have of wildlife using our islands. Who knows, maybe we can trade your photo for an island?

  • Automatic Feeders for fish and deer

We are happy to present to you a new product to please any hunter or fisher pig in you life! In effect our automatic feeders are adapted to feed koi in water gardens, to trout or bass in larger ponds, and to feeding deer in the woods.

The model Koi Café is specially adapted for small ponds where Koi are raised. Ideal for those who wish to take time away from the farm, this feeder gives constant and measured portions of food automatically into the pond.

We have larger feeders for larger ponds, that stock more fish. So go fishing elsewhere, and have no worries about your trout while you are away!

Finally we have just the product for hunters who want to prepare for the hunt. Feed the deer automatically with a Sweeney automatic feeder. It is guaranteed for three years, and is very popular with our friends south of the border.

  • Time to plant aquatic plants

There are still several weeks left for planting aquatic plants in your pond or water garden. Aquatic plants work well toimprove the pond habitat by providing shelter, food, soil stability and regulating water temperature in the pond. In addition, there is early evidence that aquatic plants may prove to be important in carbon sequestration.

We offer for sale a small, yet comprehensive list of aquatic and shoreline plants indigeneous to our region, that will beautify and improve your pond. Contact us for details.
As the photo suggests, as soon as the plants are planted, nature moves in!

            • Read about what we do in France!

The edition 293 of the magazine L'EAU, L'INDUSTRIE, LES NUISANCES June-July 2006 covered the theme of drinking water and water suitable for swimming.

The magazine researchers contacted us to profile the work we are doing to improve water quality in the Lake Waterloo project. In particular they were interested in how we applied aeration through lake bottom diffusion to this and other projects.

Contact us if you would like to know more about this article, the Waterloo Project or other work we are doing regarding large lake aeration.

  • Last chance for the pond forum

Like some wonders on the internet, this forum was a great idea but the time has come to swim on. With increasing spam issues and difficulty finding time to manage the forum properly, we have decided to put the forum to sleep for a while. As usual, contact us with questions or concerns.
